# n8n setup

n8n is a workflow automation tool with AI agent nodes. Its OpenAI credential accepts a custom base URL, so Claudech models work in any OpenAI chat node.

## Before you start

- **A Claudech API key** from [API keys](https://claudech.com/api-keys). API access unlocks after your first purchase.

## 1. Create the credential

In **Credentials → Add credential → OpenAI**, fill in:

| Field | Value |
| --- | --- |
| API Key | your `sk-...` key |
| Base URL | `https://api.claudech.com/v1` |

Save. Name it "Claudech" so it is easy to find.

## 2. Use it in a workflow

1. Add an **AI Agent** node (or a Basic LLM Chain) and attach an **OpenAI Chat Model** sub-node.
2. Select the Claudech credential.
3. For **Model**, choose **By ID** and enter `claude-opus-5-5` (or any Claudech model id).

Tool use in AI Agent nodes works because every Claudech model supports tool calling.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Fix |
| --- | --- |
| Model list is empty or shows OpenAI names | Choose the model **By ID** instead of from the list |
| `401` | Re-copy the key without spaces; check it is active under **API keys** |
| `402 insufficient_balance` | Top up under [Billing](https://claudech.com/billing) |
