Setup
Three settings in Cursor
All of them are in Cursor Settings → Models.
1. Paste your API key
Under OpenAI API Key, paste your Claudech sk- key. API access unlocks after your first purchase.
2. Override the base URL
Turn on Override OpenAI Base URL and enter exactly https://api.claudech.com/v1, with no trailing slash.
3. Add a model id
Type a model id from the table below into the model search box and click Add Custom Model. Then pick it in Chat.

Cursor calls the API from its own servers, so the base URL must be public; a local proxy will not work. Using Claude Code too? See Claude Code with Claudech.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a paid Cursor plan?
Yes. Cursor only accepts custom API keys and custom models on its paid plans. On the Free or Hobby plan Cursor rejects the key on its own servers before the request reaches Claudech.
Which Cursor features run on Claudech?
Chat, Agent mode and inline edits use the model you pick, so a Claudech model id sends them to Claudech. Tab completions, Cursor’s Auto router and background agents always stay on Cursor’s own models.
Why does Cursor say "Invalid API key"?
Usually the base URL is not exactly https://api.claudech.com/v1 (no trailing slash), the key was copied with a space, or the custom model name matches one of Cursor’s built-in models. The setup guide lists each case and its fix.
How am I billed?
Every request is billed per token from your Claudech balance at the rates in the table above. The Usage page shows each request with its model, tokens and cost. Token packages never expire.
Can I switch back to Cursor’s models?
Yes. Turn off "Override OpenAI Base URL" in Cursor Settings and Cursor goes back to its own models. While the override is on, Cursor sends every OpenAI-format request to Claudech.
Is Claudech part of Cursor?
No. Claudech is an independent service and is not affiliated with Anysphere, the company behind Cursor. Cursor supports custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints, and Claudech is one.
